Ari’s frown spoke of her uncertainty as her focus was drawn to something over his shoulder,

“They’re staring.”

The alarm in her voice was evident as her eyes stared into his helplessly.

“Can you blame them? You’re the most beautiful woman in the room.”

“You mustn’t say such a thing!!”

Her harsh whisper made him smile,

“They’re clearly angered that I’ve taken you.”

“Taken me?”

A smirk settled on his lips,

“I think I’ve handed myself over quite freely.”

Why I wrote it…

I never actually expected to write this book until after I finished The Prince & the Girl, but I guess plans change :)

The first time I thought of this novel was in the midst of writing The Prince & the Girl. It felt like a far-off memory that would be accomplished in the distant future. While I was in Italy, I realized that I was extremely tired of writing the characters for the series. It came to a point where I no longer wanted to write at all and it felt suffocating. I knew I loved writing, but I was in no mood for writing heart-wrenching emotions. Ironically enough, I wanted something light-hearted.

These side characters seemed like they would have a sweet side story that would be resolved in the span of a hundred pages, but then I began to develop their story and everything changed. It was as if they had a mind of their own.

These characters were broken but beautiful. They longed to be with each other despite the hardships that they faced. They were warriors to a fault. When I began to write Ari, I immediately felt a kinship to her. At the beginning, she was everything that I wanted to be. Beautiful, brave, a fighter, and lovable by all. But then, she revealed her deepest wounds and the traumatizing events that she faced. Suddenly, I didn’t want to be like her at all. Yet, it was there where I saw myself the most. The way she dealt with her trauma and how she desperately wanted to believe she was loved - that, I could relate to all too well. And it broke my heart. It was like looking into a mirror and realizing the reality of myself.

William, on the other hand, he was everything that I wanted in a man. Brave, strong, protector, fierce, not to mention, handsome. And so, just like Ari, I found myself having a soft spot for this fictional character that aspired towards goodness and had a fierce conviction of obtaining justice. As I wrote and developed his story, his character broke me the most. He loved so fiercely and tried so hard and yet, in a certain way, he failed. He failed to protect the woman he loved. If you’ve read the story, you know what I’m talking about. That scene tore at me in ways that I didn’t know possible.

In the very end, I found pieces of my heart reflected in the characters. They both strived for goodness and still failed at times. They appeared to be flawlessly gorgeous, but held agonizing wounds underneath it all (literally and metaphorically).

Yet, the ending of the story is a beautiful one.
